Students Of The Week

Ryan and Jonathan were the students of the week this week in their kindergarten class. They have been excited all week for this day. Today was the day they were supposed to bring pictures of themselves to share with the class, as well as their favorite toy for show-and-tell.

Watching them pick the perfect toy was adorable. They emptied their toy box looking for the perfect toy to show the class. Jonathan ended up picking a silly action figure toy from that movie "Flushed" because he thought all the kids would think it was funny and laugh. That was pretty funny for Jonathan to use humor as a qualifier for the "Perfect" toy to show. Ryan finally settled on a nerf gun he got for Christmas. Ryan thought that if he shot a couple nerf arrows the kids would all think his toy was pretty cool. Again, a qualifier that certainly shows Ryan's personality.

Such fun kids! They are both such GOOD kids! I am perfectly content with who and what they are - I could not be more pleased and proud. Thanks boys for being so great, I love you both!

Earth Day

Ryan and Jonathan are always getting after Chris and I for not recycling more. We do pretty good. We always take our newspapers to the recycling bins, along with the dozens of cardboard boxes that run through this house after groceries have been used up (cereal, freezer foods, diapers, wipes, etc.). Ryan and Jonathan learned about the triangle picture on the bottom of items that can be recycled. They check many items to see if we should be recycling rather than throwing that item away. They get pretty vocal when they see that we are throwing that kind of stuff away. Actually - good for them. They are smart kids. They are always reminding me that I need to keep america clean (something they read on the side of some boxes and plastic bags).

The boys came home from school today talking about the cool things they did to celebrate Earth Day today. It was fun to hear them talk about everything they did, and how well they understood the concepts.

Ryan looked at me and said "Mom, what are we going to do for Earth Day at home?" Well, considering their desires to "Keep America Clean", and the recycling program the city of Pocatello just started, we called up the city and signed up for the recycling program. The city brought a new garbage can devoted only to recycling with a list of all the materials they can accept. The kids are absolutely thrilled, and this is definately something our family can do a much better job of. The city will come and pick up our recyclable trash everyother week, so now we don't even have to worry about driving it all down to the bins ourselves anymore, and this will certainly help alleviate the usually overflowing normal trash that threatens to spill all over the street by the time garbage day finally rolls around. Totally a win-win.

Good call boys!

Our children (well, I guess mostly Ryan and Jonathan) have always been early risers. We feel lucky when the kids sleep in until 7:30 am. Generally a bright and early 5:30-6:00 am is the norm. Even earlier when it is summer - the boys are sure they are supposed to be awake when the sun wakes up.
This morning, we got a fantastic wake up call at about 3:00 am. DELIGHTFUL! The best part, is that the children did not actually go back to bed. They spent the morning watching movies and playing.
By 8:30 this morning - the early morning had caught up to Sarah. The boys made it all the way through school, and then Jonathan fell asleep in the middle of eating his lunch.

I Think We Just Found Sarah's Birthday Present.

Today Evalyn, Miriam's little girl, brought over her "Bella Dancerella" toy to play with. It is basically a little ballet bar with a floor pad that shows where your feet should go to do the five ballet positions. There is a DVD that comes with it that teaches the positions as well, and then puts together a couple little dances to follow along with.
We had to begin playing with it as soon as lunch was over - the excitement was way too much for the little girls to handle. Before we could turn it on, Sarah and Addison ran to put on some cute little dance outfits that are in their dress up stuff.
The girls all absolutly LOVED it! It was darling to watch them. I was just beginning to wonder what to get Sarah for her birthday that is coming up in May. I think this may be the perfect answer. Sarah and Addie will be in heaven and have a chance to take over the T.V. and interupt the boys and their nintendo games every once in a while.

I love having girls! :) (Sorry Deb...)
